If you suffer from painful symptoms, like stomach pain, vomiting, or rectal bleeding, you may have an issue with your colon. The colon or large intestine is the final portion of the digestive tract and is responsible for reabsorbing water and ultimately removing waste from the body. Sometimes, a part of the colon or its entirety may need to be removed to treat colon diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, bowel obstruction, colonic inertia, or colon polyps or cancer. The removal of the colon or a part of it is called colon resection or colectomy. To determine if a colon resection is right for you or if it may help relieve your symptoms, contact Mississippi Institute of Weight Loss & Gulf Coast Aesthetics today. Dr. Donald Balder proudly offers colon resection in Gulfport, MS as a method of treating colon diseases and is here to help you find the relief you seek.
What Should I Expect If I Need A Colon Resection?
A colectomy is performed as an inpatient surgical procedure. Your vitals will be monitored throughout your surgery and afterward to ensure your safety. You will lie on the procedure table and be given general anesthesia. During the laparoscopic colectomy, several small incisions will be made in your abdomen to allow the surgical tools and camera to enter your body. The portion of the colon being removed will be separated from the surrounding tissue and removed from the body. Dr. Balder will make any necessary repairs to the digestive system to ensure proper waste elimination and complete the surgery. After the procedure, you will be monitored in a recovery room while your sedation medication wears off. You will remain in the hospital until you regain the function of your bowels. You will then continue to recover at home with restrictions. Dr. Balder and his team will provide specific instructions on when you may return to your regular routines, including diet and exercise.

Dr. Balder has a good bedside manner. He explains what is happening and why. He is patient, conscientious, and even keeled. Not only to his patients, but from what I can tell, to his staff as well. His prices are very reasonable. You can tell he’s providing quality for a fair price for elective type services. Definitely recommend.
