When more information is needed regarding the health of your liver, a liver biopsy may be beneficial. A liver biopsy is a procedure used to collect tissue samples that can be analyzed to determine the source of symptoms, extent of an injury, or aid in diagnosing liver conditions. Liver biopsies are generally performed percutaneously (through the skin), which allows for a quick and easy procedure. Dr. Donald Balder proudly utilizes this extremely safe procedure to help ensure the safety and comfort of Gulfport, MS patients who might need assistance diagnosing their liver conditions. For more information on how a liver biopsy can be performed to assess the health of your liver, contact Mississippi Institute of Weight Loss & Gulf Coast Aesthetics today to request a consultation.
What Is A Liver Biopsy Like?
Laparoscopic liver biopsy is typically preformed during another procedure such as weight loss surgery. If there is an abnormality of radiologic evaluation, it can be done in the OR if the radiologist does not feel he can safely do the procedure. Typically, you will be placed under general anesthesia while a hollow tube known as a cannula is inserted into the abdomen. Carbon dioxide will be used to expand the abdominal cavity to provide better viewing. A laparoscope, which is connected to a camera, is then moved through the cannula to provide visualization of the internal organs. Dr. Balder will then utilize smaller cannulas in other abdomen areas to insert the necessary medical tools to do a true cut liver biopsy or a wedge biopsy for your optimal diagnosis.

Dr. Balder has a good bedside manner. He explains what is happening and why. He is patient, conscientious, and even keeled. Not only to his patients, but from what I can tell, to his staff as well. His prices are very reasonable. You can tell he’s providing quality for a fair price for elective type services. Definitely recommend.
