When home skin care products aren't effective, but you don't want to undergo any surgical procedures, consider minimally invasive techniques for skin rejuvenation, such as microneedling. Dr. Donald Balder is pleased to perform microneedling (collagen induction therapy) in Gulfport, MS. Microneedling uses several fine needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the skin. The micro-injuries prompt the natural production of collagen and elastin, two nutrients that improve your complexion's overall health and appearance. Often performed with other skin treatments, such as serums, hyaluronic acid, stem cells, or PRP (platelet-rich plasma), microneedling may help reduce scars, stretch marks, and pores. Microneedling in combination with medications can be an amazing treatment for severe acne, acne scaring and other skin problems. Make an appointment for a consultation at Mississippi Institute of Weight Loss & Gulf Coast Aesthetics to hear more about the benefits of microneedling and how to personalize your procedure for your skin needs and goals.
At Mississippi Institute of Weight Loss & Gulf Coast Aesthetics, we recommend microneedling for our patients who are interested in the following benefits:
After reviewing the process and discussing consents, we apply a strong compounded topical anesthetic 30 minutes prior to each treatment to decrease any discomfort. If you have sensitive skin, you may experience a bit of discomfort during your procedure, but it is always very tolerable. These tiny micro needles promote a controlled full thickness insult to the skin which allows neocollagenesis to occur and promote skin health. We add HA (hyaluronic acid) as a surface agent during the procedure. Even more dramatic results are achieved with addition of stem cells or PRP. A stem cell infused cooling mask is applied after the procedure which is soothing and therapeutic. Zo moisturizing cream is applied before going home. Patient's typically develop light redness (looks and feels like a minor sunburn) and swelling for approximately a day, but this should fade quickly on its own. Most patients notice some immediate improvement, but it can take around 1 or 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase until you notice definitive changes in the appearance and health of your treated skin. Typically, you should schedule follow-up sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for ideal outcomes and lasting skin benefits; however, everybody's skin is unique, and depending on your personal needs, these recommendations may vary.
To maintain your microneedling results, you should avoid getting a tan or sunburn. You should also use sunscreen daily to protect your skin, as it will be sensitive after treatment.
